Programmable Outlet Timer

This dual outlet three (3) prong timer is a great option for devices that run on a set schedule and don’t necessarily require full connectivity or automation. It has a good set of configurable timers and can take different action on weekdays, weekends, or individual days. This electrical timer allows for 8 different programs to be set giving you options for different schedules on workweek days vs. weekends.

At under $20 this is a great way to control larger outdoor items, power strips, or entertainment systems that are consistently drawing energy.

In my case we use this to control the block heater on my truck in the winter. After monitoring the home with Sense I found that my trucks block heater draws a steady 500 watts. I have this set to turn on the plug at 2:00 AM and run till 7:00 AM on weekdays, giving the truck plenty of time to warm up fluids. This reduced the total hours running from 14 hours down to 5 hours. Monthly that is a reduction of ~90kWH or ~$11 of savings, best ROI on a device I’ve had in awhile.
