Upgrade Home to LEDs

Running the numbers on switching to LEDs was a real shock. I always knew switching to LEDs would save energy and money but didn’t realize how much until we switched out the entire house with LED. As a reference our dark basement ~850 sq/ft had four in ceiling lights with single bulbs (each 60 watt). We renovated our basement and had 28, yes 28, can lights installed. The new lights all used LED inserts and total they were still using LESS Energy than before!!

Using an Xcel Energy rebate program at Home Depot we upgraded every other bulb in the house. Upgrading to all LEDs has reduced our monthly electric energy spend $20-30, this is higher than most because we have young children and my wife works out of the house, but was a big saver month by month.

The basement lighting is all controlled and timed using the Leviton smart switches and motion sensors tied to SmartThings.
